Abstract Enzyme consumption is a key cost in the lignocellulosic sugar route for production of biofuels and chemicals, polyethylene glycol (PEG) low-cost additive that improves hydrolysis efficiency. Despite many studies this area, relation benefit over PEG addition remains unclear.
